The
Fayette County Young Farmer Program is designed to accomplish the
following tasks:
Continue to increase the numbers with our
Young Farmers base in the county by:

Looking inside and outside of the Production
Ag Sector.

Encourage or require all members to bring a
young farmer to a meeting- Twice a YR - provide incentive.

Show value of being involved of being involved:
trips, contests, promotions. Work with the Kentucky State Farm
Bureau committee members and other surrounding counties’
committees and explore new membership opportunities.
Educate current Fayette County/ STATE about
the importance of the keeping our Young Farmers involved by:
- Give committee reports at each board meeting - about what the
young farmers are doing
- Evaluate what programs are working and what we need to work on.
- Involve more young farmers to create awareness in their own personal
interests in what they want to accomplish.
- Make it family friendly.
Involvement with the Young Farmers to assist
with getting the word out about Farm Bureau and the programming
by:

Community support.

Partnerships.
-
More involvement with young farmers at the auction.
-
Speaker’s Bureau- getting the young farmers
involved.
-
Involvement downtown with a board member spot-
getting our name out.
Increase awareness in the district and State
by:
- Taking the lead in District 5 of hosting another young farmer
outing.
- Representative on the Young Farmer Board.

District 5 Young Farmer Outing
Fayette County and Keeneland hosted the District 5 Young Farmer
Outing in Lexington.
Our tour guide was the one and only Guest Services Manager, Mr. Howard
McKenzie. Our group was exposed to a behind the scenes tour of the Keeneland
grounds. We look forward to our next outing as a district.

Kentucky Farm Bureau
Young Farmer Summer Outing - Hopkinsville
The Kentucky Farm Bureau Young Farmer Summer Outing was held July
15-17 in Hopkinsville. One of the events held at the summer outing
was the discussion meet, where young farmers discuss certain issues
pertinent to agriculture. The topics at this year's event were:
Do educational programs improve the public perception of agriculture?
- 4H, FFA
- Ag in the Classroom
- Direct/Indirect effects
- Educating the correct audience
- Degree programs in Agriculture
Where will tomorrow's agriculture work force come from?
- Legality
- Compensation
- Manual labor as well as skilled labor
- Effect of H2A workers
What risk does agri-terrorism pose to national security?
- Sustained food supply
- Production, processing, record keeping, transportation
- Economic repsonsibility
There
were 15 contestants in the contest with two preliminary rounds and one
semi-final round. The 2005 Discussion Meet finalists are (left to right):
Sara Lane, Fayette County; Nathan Williams, Taylor County; Kent Moore,
Woodford County; and Jay McElwain, Muhlenberg County.
The final round of the discussion meet will take place at the KFB State
Convention on Friday, December 9, 2005.
